Vocal coaching

The voice is an instrument unlike any other, deeply personal, entirely unique, and capable of so much more than many realise. As a professional vocal coach, my goal is to help you unlock the full potential of your voice, whether you're just starting out or already performing professionally.

Katy specialises in contemporary vocal styles, offering one-to-one coaching that’s tailored to you. No two voices are the same, and no two lessons should be either. We’ll work together to strengthen your vocal technique while also addressing one of the biggest challenges singers face: self-doubt. Confidence is a key part of becoming a better vocalist, and my sessions are designed to help you develop both your skill and belief in your own ability.

Whether you're a complete beginner or have some experience, lessons are shaped to suit your individual needs and pace. You don’t need any prior knowledge to get started — we’ll work within your current capabilities and build gradually from there. Sessions for beginners and intermediate singers focus on fundamental techniques, repertoire development, and applying what you learn to songs you love to sing.

Drawing from my years of experience as a touring artist and performer, Katy offers more than just technical guidance, she gives real-world, practical advice to help you grow not only as a singer but as a confident, expressive artist.

Singing Exams

Katy teaches RSL grades 1-8 specialising in their contemporary  and musical theatre syllabus. Students are encouraged to undertake vocal grades so they can have recognition for the achievements they have made during their singing lessons. The exam can be taken in 2 ways, one which contains music theory (graded exam) and one that is purely singing (Performance certificate), so there is something to suit everybody's interests and skill sets. During singing lessons you will learn everything you need to know about the pieces you are required to sing and how to pass your singing exam with flying colours. Each grade contains a wide range of contemporary songs to choose from with the added bonus of grade 6, 7 and 8 (graded exam) carrying UCAS points for those students wishing to obtain a few more points before heading off to university. Students are responsible for booking their own exams but will be advised on when they are ready to take the exam.

RECORDINGS AND VIDEOS

Building an online presence is an important part of developing as a vocalist, the skills you learn from working on the recorded voice are essential if you want to work within the music industry and gaining skills both in front and behind of the camera are also a key part of being a vocalist. Most singers struggle with confidence on and off camera and are daunted by the thought of putting their work (covers or original songs) online but these are skills you will learn during your singing lessons and will only undertake a recording project once you are deemed ready.

SERVICES

SONGWRITING LESSONS

Songwriting lessons are available for those who want to learn how to build a song from scratch. In these lessons you will learn about chord progressions, song structure, instrumentation, top-line (melody) writing, lyric writing as well as basic music production. This is best suited for those who can play an instrument such as piano or guitar to an intermediate standard but this can also be suitable for those who are wanting to work with royalty free backing music.

TRACK CREATION

This service is for singers who have written a top-line melody with accompanying lyrics but do not have any have the body of music to accompany it. Track creation is carried out by a professional songwriter and producer and the sessions are usually lengthy due to this method of songwriting consisting of the songwriter needing to apply the trial and error method to work out which chords and style best suit your project.

TOP-LINE WRITING

Toplining is the art of writing a vocal melody and lyrics over the top of a written body of music. This is popular practice in the EDM, Pop, R&B, and Hip-Hop/Rap and is arguably the most important part of the songwriting process. During these sessions you will learn the art of melody writing and how to become a lyricist.

THE FULL WORKS

This service is offered to those who want to write a song but don't know where to start. The 'full works' is a long term project for those who want to learn everything there is to know about the songwriting process and have a song written for them from scratch. The idea behind these sessions is to offer a full insight into the full process of writing a song and to enable you to transfer those skills to your own practice so you are able to write your own songs from scratch in the future.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Please note that all students are required to give a minimum of 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule a lesson. Cancellations made within 24 hours of the scheduled lesson time will be charged at the full lesson rate, regardless of the reason.

Missed lessons (no-shows) are also charged in full and cannot be rescheduled. A new appointment can be made once the late cancellation fee has been settled.

This policy is in place to ensure fairness and to prevent valuable lesson slots from going unused. It is standard practice across the industry and helps maintain a consistent and professional schedule for all students.
